This longstanding exchange between the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy and Kitasato University in Tokyo, Japan engages students in four weeks onsite. Preparations begin prior to travel with required meetings designed for cultural preparedness and continues after travel with a presentation at the College of Pharmacy.
Kitasato University School of Medicine includes the Pharmaceutical Graduate School which is one of seven graduate schools comprised in the University. The undergraduate pharmacy program offered is a six year program. The University, founded in 1962, has the following basic principles of education:

- Promoting interdisciplinary medical research
- Promoting preventative medicine
